Frequently Asked Questions

We answer the most common questions about our educational project

How are languages present at Andolina?

At Andolina we work with foreign languages naturally and integrated into daily life. Children are exposed to English through songs, games, stories and everyday conversations, enabling organic language learning.

Is it an accredited school?

Andolina is a school authorised by the Department of Education of the Principality of Asturias. We comply with all legal and educational requirements set by the administration. Our educational project is officially recognised, guaranteeing the validity of studies completed at our centre.

Can we visit the school?

Of course! We believe that getting to know our space and way of working is essential for making an informed decision. We organise guided tours where you can see our facilities and learn about our educational project first-hand.

Can cooperative families come to the school?

Yes, Andolina is a cooperative and families are a fundamental part of the project. You actively participate in school life through assemblies, working committees, workshops and activities. This family involvement is one of the pillars of our educational project.

Is there a dining room?

Yes, we have a dining service. We prepare healthy lunches prioritising organic and local products. Mealtime is also an educational moment where children participate in setting the table, serving themselves and cleaning up, developing autonomy and healthy habits.

How does the accompaniment work?

At Andolina we speak of 'companions' rather than teachers. Our team observes, listens and guides children in their learning process, respecting their individual rhythms and interests. Accompaniment is based on creating a prepared environment where each child can explore, investigate and learn autonomously.

Are there extracurricular activities?

Yes, we offer a variety of extracurricular activities that complement our educational project. These activities vary depending on the school year and may include workshops in art, music, sports, carpentry, and other proposals that arise from the interests of the children. These activities take place from 15:30 onwards and may run until 16:30 or 17:00 in the afternoon.

How and when is the nappy removed at Andolina?

The process of leaving the nappy is carried out respectfully following each child's rhythm. There is no fixed age or specific moment. We observe each child's signs of maturity and work in coordination with families to accompany this process naturally, without pressure or imposition.

What are the ratios at Andolina?

We maintain reduced ratios to ensure personalised, quality attention. Groups are small, allowing close and respectful accompaniment of each child's individual needs.

Is there specific preparation for the transition to secondary school?

Our educational approach prepares children comprehensively for any subsequent stage. They develop autonomy, research skills, critical thinking and social skills that allow them to successfully adapt to different educational contexts.

Is there a bus service?

Currently we do not have our own bus service. However, families organise themselves to share journeys, creating mutual support networks that strengthen the cooperative community.

Does free pedagogy mean no limits?

Not at all. Free pedagogy does not mean the absence of limits, but rather clear, coherent and respectful limits. The limits at Andolina are those necessary for mutual respect, safety and everyone's wellbeing. Children learn to self-regulate, make decisions and assume the consequences of their actions.

Do they just play?

Play is children's natural learning activity. Through play they develop cognitive, social, emotional and motor skills. At Andolina, children also investigate, experiment, create projects, work in the garden, build in the carpentry workshop, prepare their lunches... All of this is meaningful and experiential learning.

What are the school hours?

The school's general hours are 9:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. This schedule includes all daily activities. We also offer the possibility of half-days until 13:00.

How are the outdoor facilities used?

Outdoor spaces are fundamental to our educational project. Children spend time outdoors daily, regardless of the season. Outside we have the vegetable patch, carpentry workshop, free play areas with swings, sandpits and climbing structures, and natural spaces to explore and discover.

How are students assessed?

Assessment at Andolina is continuous and personalized. We observe each child's learning process, taking into account their development, interests, and individual pace. Through daily accompaniment, pedagogical monitoring, and communication with families, we value both academic progress and personal, social, and emotional development.

Are there homework assignments?

At Andolina, we prioritize learning mainly during school hours, through meaningful experiences, projects, and practical activities. Therefore, there is usually no traditional homework. We believe that time outside of school is important for playing, resting, sharing with family, and exploring the world.

What happens after Primary?

After finishing Primary, students continue their educational journey in different Secondary Education centers. During their time at Andolina, they develop autonomy, critical thinking, curiosity, and a solid academic foundation that allows them to successfully adapt to new educational environments. In the last years of Primary, we also carry out activities that introduce students to some common formats of more traditional secondary education, such as more structured classes, use of the blackboard, or small evaluation simulations. This allows them to become familiar with those contexts and face the next stage with confidence, security, and all the skills acquired during their learning process.

What is the admission process like?

Interested families start the process by requesting a visit to the school. During this meeting, they can get to know the spaces, the educational proposal, and the daily life of the school. Afterwards, a meeting is held with the pedagogical team to answer questions and delve deeper into the educational project. At this stage, we also seek to get to know the family to jointly assess whether Andolina is the right environment for their child and if there is a good fit with the educational community. As a final part of the process, the child may spend a day at the school accompanied by their mother or father. This experience allows them to experience the school's environment directly and helps the family make a conscious final decision.

Is there a lunch service?

Yes. The school offers a lunch and social time accompanied by teachers and by mothers and fathers from the educational community. Each child brings their food from home, which allows for respect of each family's preferences, habits, and dietary needs. This moment is experienced as a calm and caring space, where, in addition to eating, autonomy, coexistence, and well-being are fostered.

Is there an early drop-off service?

Yes. The school has an early drop-off service to facilitate family-work balance. Children can arrive before the start of the school day and share a quiet welcome time.
